NEW Publication in Applied Energy

Application of Industrial Symbiosis principles to the management of utility networks

A new publication from CEPIMA in "Applied Energy" (IF: 9.7) is available in open-access (Link). The publication is first-authored by Aldwin-Lois Galvan Cara, a former undergraduate student in CEPIMA who continued collaborating with the group as a research technician and is now pursuing his masters degree in Chemical Engineering in Tarragona. The publication is co-authored by Prof. Moisès Graells and Prof. Antonio Espuña.

The paper is titled "Application of Industrial Symbiosis principles to the management of utility networks". The subject of this contribution studying the symbiosis effects that can be achieved through utility sharing in industrial utility networks. To that end, the authors formulate a Mixed Integer Linear Program (MILP) to study the effect of different competition scenarios (cooperative vs. non-cooperative). The authors highlight the usefulness of the formulation for eventual decision-making in real competitive scenarios.
