    Welcome, Brayan!

We are happy to welcome Brayan Danilo Batista Perez, who joins CEPIMA today as a doctoral student.

Brayan is a chemical engineer from the Universidad de Cartagena (Colombia), where he worked on activated carbons made from sugarcane residues for CO₂ capture. At CEPIMA he will study the removal of pharmaceutical contaminants from wastewater with activated carbons, including carbons made from sugarcane bagasse, and the design and modelling of fixed-bed adsorption columns.

More about his background is on his CV page.

Oral presentation at CAPE Forum 2026, Salamanca

Lluc Aresté-Saló gave an oral presentation at CAPE Forum 2026, held in Salamanca from 16 to 18 September 2026:

    • Graph-database framework for the thermodynamic screening of CO₂ utilization pathways, by Lluc Aresté-Saló and Moisès Graells.

The talk continues Lluc’s work on CO₂ upcycling pathways within the P2CE project, earlier shown at MeCCE-16, ESCAPE-36 and CHISA 2026.

Two posters at CHISA 2026, Prague

CEPIMA presented two posters at CHISA 2026, the International Congress of Chemical and Process Engineering, held in Prague (Czech Republic) from 23 to 27 August 2026. Both are part of the P2CE project.

    • An irradiance-dependent kinetic model for CEC degradation in a low-tech solar photocatalytic reactor, by Lluc Aresté-Saló, Adrian Landig, Moisès Graells and Montserrat Pérez-Moya, presented by Montserrat Pérez-Moya.
    • A graph-based decision support system for CO₂ valorization, by Lluc Aresté-Saló and Moisès Graells, presented by Moisès Graells.

    Welcome back, Fabian!

We are happy to welcome Fabian Lechtenberg, who joins the Department of Chemical Engineering at UPC today as a lecturer (Professor Lector).

Fabian is no stranger to CEPIMA: he did his PhD in the group (2020–2024), on multi-actor, multi-criteria decision-making for industrial symbiosis and the circular economy. Since then he has been a postdoctoral researcher at the SUPERlab of ETH Zürich and a visiting professor at Universitat Rovira i Virgili. His research combines process systems engineering with life cycle optimisation, and he develops the open-source PULPO framework.

He joins the P2CE project team and will teach Chemical Process Engineering, Simulation and Optimisation of Chemical Processes, and Process Integration (see the teaching page).

More about his background is on his CV page.

    Three posters at ESCAPE-36, Sheffield

CEPIMA presented three posters at ESCAPE-36, the 36th European Symposium on Computer Aided Process Engineering, held in Sheffield (United Kingdom) from 21 to 24 June 2026. Two of them build on the CO₂ upcycling work of the P2CE project.

    • Graph-based thermodynamic screening of waste-to-resource pathways, by Lluc Aresté-Saló and Moisès Graells, presented by Lluc Aresté-Saló.
    • Simulation and comparative evaluation of process alternatives of CO₂ upcycling to methanol, by Franc González Cazorla, Jordi Pujol, Oriol Martínez, Lluis Soler and Moisès Graells, presented by Franc González Cazorla.
    • Advanced episode detection for anticipation and alarm management in industrial emissions control, by Omar Hassani Zerrouk Ouahabi, Eva Gallego, José Francisco Perales and Moisès Graells, presented by Moisès Graells.

CEPIMA to present at MeCCE-16, Barcelona

CEPIMA will present four contributions at the 16th Mediterranean Congress of Chemical Engineering (MeCCE-16), held at Fira de Barcelona from 9 to 12 June 2026. Three of them deal with the upcycling of CO₂, the central theme of the P2CE project, and one with photo-Fenton water treatment.

    Oral presentations

    • Determining pathways for the chemical upcycling of CO₂, by Lluc Aresté-Saló and Moisès Graells. doi:10.48158/mecce-16.t1-o-18
    • Comparative process simulation of alternative CO₂ upcycling routes to methanol, by Franc González Cazorla, Jordi Pujol, Oriol Martínez, Lluis Soler Turu and Moisès Graells, from Franc’s industrial PhD at GasN2. doi:10.48158/mecce-16.t2-o-17

    Posters

    • Development and evaluation of porous solid matrices for CO₂ capture, separation and valorisation, by Julio E. Sosa, Henrry Ortega-Ortiz, Rui P. P. L. Ribeiro, José Paulo B. Mota, Elena Gabirondo and Moisès Graells. doi:10.48158/mecce-16.t2-p-02
