CEPIMA is the Center for Process and Environmental Engineering at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), based at the Barcelona East School of Engineering (EEBE), within the Department of Chemical Engineering (EQ). We are a process systems engineering (PSE) group: we develop a holistic modelling approach, and the systematic methods and tools built on it, to support decision making in the chemical and process industries and in the transformation of natural and productive resources.

Those decisions range from the design of a process to its planning, scheduling, supervision and control, and from the molecule to the supply chain. We weigh them on several criteria at once (economic, environmental and social), keep every actor involved in view, and work within the paradigm of the circular economy.

Research lines

Our work is organised in four disciplines that feed one another: models are what we optimise, optimisation proposes alternatives, assessment judges them, and applications are where they are put to the test and where the next questions come from.
