Brayan Danilo Batista Perez

Doctoral student, Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC)

Profile

His research focuses on the development and optimisation of advanced materials and adsorption-based separation processes for environmental applications. He combines experimental adsorption studies with thermodynamic modelling and process simulation to develop sustainable technologies aligned with climate mitigation and circular economy principles.

His earlier work dealt with the synthesis and characterisation of activated carbons from biomass residues, in particular sugarcane-based materials modified with urea and chemically activated with potassium hydroxide (KOH), for CO₂ capture. His current research addresses the adsorption and removal of pharmaceutical contaminants from wastewater using commercial activated carbons and activated carbons synthesised from sugarcane bagasse waste, including the evaluation of adsorption performance and the design and modelling of fixed-bed adsorption systems.
